ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!? EDIT: it’s not the goosenecks I’m complaining about, it’s the fact that it isn’t a liftback, like an Audi A7.

...is that a good are you kidding me?
![]() 09/16/2015 at 22:27 |

I was really hoping for a full liftback..
![]() 09/16/2015 at 22:29 |

That’s not too bad. The trunk opening on my cobalt is awful
![]() 09/16/2015 at 22:30 |

Yeah that’s definitely not that bad. At least not all caps and several exclamation points bad
![]() 09/16/2015 at 22:30 |

I don’t understand why some carmakers keep doing this.
![]() 09/16/2015 at 22:30 |

Agreed...a la Skoda Superb...

Good for storing corpses.

You could probably fit a dead guy in there.
![]() 09/16/2015 at 22:34 |

i could fit at least 2 bodies in there

You mean make a useful trunk opening? That actually spans tail light to tail light unlike a lot of other car makers? Yeah who’d want that
![]() 09/16/2015 at 22:45 |
|
No, the fucking trunk hinges, we have enough technology as to not destroy all luggage. Why do carmakers insist on not using hydraulic suspended arms.
![]() 09/16/2015 at 22:48 |

Compared to the mail slot flap Bill Ford ripped off his front door and stuck on the back of the Mustang, it isn’t bad.

Many small sedans have been like that for the past 10 years.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a car that the trunk opening
didn’t
span taillight to taillight.

They’ve got rid of it for the new one. :(
Just a regular hatch now.
![]() 09/16/2015 at 23:14 |

That’s ok...I prefer the wagon anyways...
I hear you might be getting a new one soon?
![]() 09/16/2015 at 23:21 |

It would cost them like $5 more to avoid the shitty goosenecks.

Ye’. Going to Skoda Friday to check one out. Yesterday I asked what car they have in and the reply is “we don’t know yet. we are going to pick it up from the docks tomorrow”. Lol.
We are looking at the one pictured (estate in that blue (Lava Blue) metallic). Ordering it in December for a 1st of March delivery.
![]() 09/16/2015 at 23:49 |

Seriously? its got a great fastback roof line, and it’s not a liftback? So much for Honda standing for practicality, and usefulness.
![]() 09/17/2015 at 00:02 |

It’s a beautiful car. Shame we don’t get it in the states. Best of luck to you in your quest for a new Superb!
![]() 09/17/2015 at 00:08 |

Cheers fella. Will the U.S. be getting the VW Passat or have you got it already. The VW Passat, Audi A6 and Skoda Superb all share the same platform, engines and drivetrain (if not marginally altered for power variances).

Rented a newer Focus about a year ago... just as bad. Deep trunk, but the opening was shit.

Goosenecks should be banned. We have them my wife’s Sable and, oh man if you forget they’re there goodbye untimely fragile item.

Makes sense to me — as the first gen looks a lot better too.

Well we have the U.S. Passat built here in Tennessee which has no wagon variant :(
And call me weird but I find Skodas prettier than VWs. Their current design style with all the edges and angles is better than VW’s overscuplted lines...
![]() 09/17/2015 at 01:14 |
|
I totally agree, Skodas look much better (except the rapid (the rear section has too much panel and small wheels, though the Rapid Spaceback looks good) and the Roomster for obvious reasons, it’s ugly).
So will the Tennessee plant be getting the new Passat to build? The new one being the shared MQB platform with the Superb. I don’t like the grille and lower valance on it. :(
The new Passat is only available in diesel (no petrol options) in both manual and automatic.
![]() 09/17/2015 at 01:16 |

The opening seems bigger than anything that would ever fit in there in the first place...

That picture makes it look like a crumpled piece of paper that's been mostly uncrumpled, but not entirely.

Looks familiar, but not as good...

A.K.A. JUST BUY THE FIVE DOOR DAMMIT
![]() 09/17/2015 at 01:36 |

Not sure yet, apparently the new North American Passat is to be released later this month, so there’s a high chance it’s related to the Euro one, although we will for sure get gas (or petrol, as you Brits call it) engines...
I actually don’t dislike the Rapid and proposed new Roomster; I think that Skoda has nailed this corporate grille thing and it looks great on all their cars.
![]() 09/17/2015 at 02:04 |
|
The Rapid is nice and all but:
As I say the Spaceback of it looks great.
The image of the ‘new’ Roomster has been doing the rounds for about three years and is a mock up of a VW Sharan/Seat Alhambra.
I like the Skoda grille but the new Passat grille looks like someone clocked off to go home early.
![]() 09/17/2015 at 02:15 |

Wow, the Spaceback is incredibly awesome! The black effect makes the entire package more attractive. Also, I do think the new Roomster is quite a but better looking than its Seat and VW siblings...

And people wonder why mid-size and compact CUVs are eating sedans’ lunches, sales-wise.
I learned this lesson with my old Legacy GT sedan. Great car, decent trunk floor space... but couldn’t fit things through the opening, and the portal was TWICE the size of this Civic above.
Vertical Hatchbacks and fastback lift backs are superior, yet aside from family vehicles, sporty or economical vehicles seem not to have them very often.
5 door sedans, wagons, and 3-door fastbacks and shooting brake coupes... why have they almost all evaporated?
![]() 09/17/2015 at 02:35 |
|
We’ll see if it ever goes into production. As I say the pictures that have been floating around for the approximately three years are a Sharan/Alhambra with a Skoda grille rendered onto it. The one you posted only differing in that the top of the grille used to curve under the badge where the new configuration is a more straight and angled affair.

Currently, in Europe. And yes, this too is a Honda Civic.

Ohhhh yeah those are annoying my saturn had those and I nearly broke my tv when I was moving a few years ago. I feel like it’s only on cheaper cars though. Hell the cobalt has a gas strut to pop it open
![]() 09/17/2015 at 10:02 |

Even the Cobalt had suspend arms, the cost would be minimal
